Largest known prime number with 24,862,048 digits

There’s a new behemoth in the ongoing search for ever-larger prime numbers — and it’s nearly 25 million digits long.

A prime is a number that can be divided only by two whole numbers: itself and 1. The newly discovered number is what’s known as a Mersenne prime, named for a French monk named Marin Mersenne who studied primes some 350 years ago.

Voynich Manuscript

The Voynich manuscript is an illustrated codex hand-written in an unknown writing system. The vellum on which it is written has been carbon-dated to the early 15th century (1404–1438), and it may have been composed in Northern Italy during the Italian Renaissance. The manuscript is named after Wilfrid Voynich, a Polish-Samogitian book dealer who purchased it in 1912.
